I haven't seen a lot of it either but he apparently enjoys playing the role. It's a passion project for him.

yeah, He's stated he's been a long time Trekkie (Star Trek fan) since he was a little kid in the commentary in the FMA Star of Milos movie. I remember him pointing out how he now understands how actors like William Shatner and the late (and great) Leonard Nimoy felt with always being recognized for roles of Kirk and Spock since he himself usually gets recognized for his role of Edward Elric.

That's very true. Even though Vic Mignogna has done a lot of other stuff, people keep going back to his role of Edward Elric. He was really good in Fullmetal Alchemist so the the plaudits is deserved.

Thats the same case with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. They did other roles besides Kirk and Spock before and after they did those roles but they always get remembered for them.

Breakout roles are a double edged blade it seems. On the one side you get recognition but frequently it seems that the role is permanently attached to you. The fact that an actor gets recognised at all in such a competitive means he/she did something right at least

Yup it is.
I know William Shatner has mostly grown to resent it. The rest of the Trek cast though I think were more okay with it.
I remember hearing stories of DeForest Kelly and James Doone being approached by fans of their characters (Doctor McCoy and Scotty the Engineer respectfully) and told that they were the inspirations for them to become Doctors or Engineers

I heard about how people were inspired to go into careers by Star Trek. A lot of people were prompted to become scientists too. Science fiction shows like Star Trek may actually help to make the technology they portray a reality by encouraging people to take up those professions.

Where do you think the idea of Cell phones came from? Star Trek's communicator.

Exactly, that's one of the innovations that was inspired by Star Trek. Maybe we'll have more to look forward to.

Which is funny you say that since originally Star Trek was a flop. The years it came out it failed to gather much of an audiance. Only enough to garner it 3 seasons.
It was its reruns in the 70's (after the Moon Landing) that made it popular

Science fiction tv shows tend not to be so commercially successful but they do gain a cult following. Firefly is another example-it only lasted one season but also gained quite a following. It probably takes people time to catch on to a good science fiction show.

Yeah it wasn't expected for Star Wars to get any popularity when A New Hope was first released to theaters. It was horribly under-budget.

Aaah, that's awesome. If they ever make a live action Fullmetal Alchemist movie (which would be a bad idea almost definitely) they would at least have have to cast Vic as Edward. Wink

Here is a virtual reality project IBM is apparently working on for the Sword Art Online franchise.

It looks like this in the world.

yeah I saw a vid of the combat and it looks Skyrim and SAO had a sickly child that hit its head one too many times against the brick wall known as the Oculus Rift.

The early virtual reality stuff won't be as impressive but it will get more advanced as developers become adept at making games for it. It is sad that with each generation we progressively get cut off from reality more and more.
