...my friends can't cook.
I hate cooking. My food is always bland even when I try to do something with it. I was good at one thing. I think a roast. But I haven't tried that since about the time my dad died. Even making a grilled cheese is annoying to me.
I usually stick to microwave food, sandwiches (various kinds but usually the standard stuff), omelets, ordering out or someone else doing the cooking.
I also never liked the idea of only being able to savior the results of my hard work for only a short time. But I don't even like my own cooking.
I'll do the dishes and clean up.

I don't hate, it just takes too much time... When I do have the time, I'll gladly do it.

It only depends on what you're cooking.
Canned soup can take up to 3 mins, or more :l
Making a sandwich involves cutting up stuff (depending), layering, and plating...
You could wait 5-10 mins for a, say, frozen meal to microwave (including waiting, peeling films, etc.), or, in 10 mins have a batch of rice (some for now, some for later), steamed a ton of vegetables, whipped up/out a sauce, and grilled some sliced meats to go on top. It's also a hell of a lot healthier for you too, because it can be fresh, and you know what's in it. Also, portioned right, you can have food for more than one meal.
You could put together an egg sandwich from scratch (fry/broil/poach egg, toast bread/english muffin, and crisp bacon in the microwave/under a broiler/in a pan) in that time.
The time it takes is variable, but, really only dependent on what you make, how you make it, and whether or not you know what you're doing to make it.
When I first started cooking, it was because I hated eating heat-up meals (too small, too bland sometimes, too expensive) and my dad's cooking when my mum was at work. So, I started learning, and now I cook for the whole family on a weekly basis.
Give me an hour, and I'll have a full-course, awesome meal for 5+ people.
Give me 10 mins, and I'll have a full, tasty, healthy, and quick meal for 5+ people.
It's all relative :l
Also, Bryan, when I started cooking, I was mixing all kinds of crazy shit together into my meals... looking back, it was awful what I made o.o I also made bland food as well. With practice and patience, as well as a keen eye and sense of smell and taste, you learn to season properly, blend flavours, and match flavours between meals/items/etc. It's easier than it looks, but it takes practice.
I like to cook by "flavour profile", for example.
My mum likes to cook by recipe, more or less.
...We often disagree in the kitchen, and no offense, but I think she's jealous of what I make...

Re: Favorite food? (post pics)
Example!
I made this, with my thumb injured (~1 month in). It took me an hour+ to wrap the steak in bacon, one handed, and pin it in to cook/season everything, but once I did, it took me about 15 mins to cook this whole meal.
I made 4 steaks like this, and 4 potatoes, that night.
I hope it looks as good to you as it does to me...
Baked potatoes are a favourite food of mine. And who doesn't like bacon???

Oh no, when I say, it takes too much time, I mean for elaborated dishes.
Sandwiches, and stuff that is easy or quick to make, I will, no problem.

SO DELICIOUS~~~~~~!
I, more likely than not, will cut the tofu up into good sized pieces and cook it up with my fried rice, when I make it. Other than that, I'll also steam it with some vegetables, or grill it on both sides after marinating it (you can use practically any good sauce or liquid) for a good while, and then eat it in a sandwich.
Your idea of eating it with shitake mushrooms is also great.
We can also buy pre-cooked "puffed" tofu squares here, and those are great just heated through and dipped in soy sauce
Kinda like this packaging:
it's very versatile
That's why it's AMAZING~~~~~~~!
