In this thread you can talk about your favourite sport or any sport that is popular in your country. You can also talk about your favourite regional or national teams. Maybe we can even learn something about different sports Very Happy

When I was a kid I TRIED getting into sports since that is what all the kids at school and my family were into. I could never understand American Football and eventually have grown an unbased hate towards the sport (but then again my grandparents live down past Foxbourugh Stadium where the New England Patriots and every time there is a game in town traffic SUCKS making a normally 1 to 2 hour car ride turn into 5 hours of boredom) and I'd often fall asleep to games of Base Ball (Red Sox FTW). I tried getting into soccer (aka Football for everyone else that ISN'T a dumb American) since I found it different and not everyone was into it. But I quickly lost interest in it.
Only sport I seem to like is Hockey. I've never personally played hockey - not even street hockey (I haven't played the actual sport since I've never put on ice skates in my life since I KNOW I will fall on my ass over and over and over again since I am the type that will lose balance just from simply standing in one spot) but its the only one I can seem to watch without getting too bored.
I still need to be in the MOOD to watch the Bruins kick ass but when I am in the mood; I'll watch it.

I tried getting into Nascar as a kid and I was actually pretty close until the famous accident in I think 1999 or 2000 when Dale Earnheart got killed. He was my favorite and when he died I lost all interest. I still got the PS1 Nascar 1998 game when I feel like reliving the glory days of Nascar from the 90's.

Now.....if DODGE BALL was a sport I'd be a big friggin fan!

Hahaha, dodge ball as a sport would be awesome. The damage that professional dodge ball players would inflict on each other with throws would be devastating though. I don't think the repeated balls to the head would be too good for their health though.

I played field hockey when I was in school. Seeing as there is no ice in South Africa and very few ice rinks it makes field hockey the only type of hockey that's played here.

Rugby and soccer/football are the two big sports in South Africa though. Strangely enough it's called soccer in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand too. Rugby is really popular in my region though. I never played though I like to watch it on occasion. The rugby team in my province is The Stormers and the South African rugby team is The Springboks. The South African rugby team is currently ranked second in the world, behind New Zealand.

I grew up with ice skating, then some hockey, before moving into soccer. I played, albeit briefly, on my elementary school's basketball team, formed a "European Handball" team in high school, and played badminton for a good few years with friends from time to time.

As a favourite, well... I don't have one, really.
I like all sports, practically. That said, I don't enjoy watching them, as my time is better spent doing something else.

...

Like PLAYING sports.

Yeah, I also played a variety of sports. I played soccer/football, chess, tennis and did horse riding (briefly show jumping) before doing hockey. I know it's probably quite pointless watching sport but it's one of the few areas where one can see nations competing against each other. That's probably the dynamic that intrigues me.

I like to combine the two. Shopping for gaming items. The best of both worlds. My wallet doesn't like it so much though ;0

How is shopping a sport? Not dissing but curious really.

Gaming though; yeah its pretty much a sport now. A few years ago I watched some tournament for Halo 4 and I felt like I was watching the Superbowl for gamers.

@Key: Oh, you also played tennis. Tennis is a nice sport to play with friends or family. Can be a nice leisure sport.

Memorabilia is awesome. It's great to get an item that is connected to one's favourite franchise. Sometimes it looks like people think shopping is a competitive sport with all the money that is changing hands Very Happy

Competition can also become pretty fierce when there is a sale or price reduction. It can get quite physical between shoppers.

Yeah I've heard of loads of people dying from being trampled to death on Black Friday - the day when all the prices drop for one day. Ironic since its the day after Thanksgiving.
So one day we're supposed to be thankful for everything we have and then the following day people are killing each other over greed. Wonderful.

Oh, Black Friday. Word of it has even reached these shores. A comic strip about the Avengers out Black Friday shopping.
