Let's talk Character Design
I'm mostly interested in characters from video games but anything goes.
What characters have designs that just make you tick? Regardless of who they are, or what they do.
Personally, I've always been attracted to simple yet meaningful designs.
An example I like to use whenever I talk about this is the case of the Dragon's Crown female characters.
I don't particularly have anything against them. People may say that they're oversexualised, but in my opinion, exaggeration of the body features just fits with the whole medieval them they were going for.
That said, out of the three, the archer is still my favourite. It's simple, maybe a tad plain, but it's effective, and it works very well, cause it shows much of the character, simply with the way she's dressed.
This is the same argument that makes me like character such as Faith from Mirror's Edge, Vanessa from King of Fighters or Bazett from the Fate series.
All three of them have fairly simple designs, and yet, they speak to me louder than some excess skin would...
On that note, let me give you an example of what I consider terrible character designs.
Ryuko from Kill la Kill, has one of the dumbest designs I've ever seen. It's like... wtf is she wearing??? She looks like a girl straight out of a mecha hentai. I now they say that sex sells, but who the hell though this was a good outfit for a main character???
It's flashy and memorable, yes, but frankly it ads literally nothing...
But I'm not just hating on characters with too much skin showing. Thankfully, there another example from one of my favorite series i can use to illustrate my point.
From Arcana Heart 3 series... Scharlachrot and Minori.
Scharlachrott was to be used as an experimental weapon she escaped, never learning ruled of society. So the cape and tattered clothes makes sense, since she just goes around without a care, and her lack of morale means she can just go around in whatever clothes she finds most comfortable.
Minori... however... there isn't much to say about her except that she has underboobs, and is basically a clone of Heat, the series' main character, without all the clothes on. And for where her origin story puts her, her outfit doesn't make ANY sense at all

I also like Faith's design :3 Mirrors edge is a fun but it if don't use your common sense.. it's frustrating XD
I'd have to say that the Fairy Tail character design is ugly... ... That's pretty much the only character design I find ugly.
I like the DRRR!! character design...
Especially Shizuo's and Izaya's
The Mekaku City Actors character design...
And last but not least, the Persona series character design.
I mostly like the Protaganist of Persona 3... I think he's really good looking and his suit is the best. It's simple.

A character's design is there to compliment the character and give an impression into what kind of lifestyle, status and the type of person that character is to the viewer/reader, sometimes in satire/comedy a design of a character is used to illustrate a point, political, Industrial or commercial commentary.

One thing I'm definitely working on is if I have a cast of characters to make them different from each other as much as possible. Different faces, hair, body types, etc. are all important to separate them enough and give them all their own flavor. However a consistent 'style' is also good so they all feel like they're part of the same universe.
