Your own personalized view at religion

Post by Bryan Dacote on Sat Apr 25, 2015 5:29 pm

Okay this is yet another risky topic to make so I'm gonna give you the warning now: IF THIS BECOMES A HATE THREAD I WILL LOCK THIS THREAD AND DISH OUT WARNINGS TO ALL WHOM DO THE HATING

With that said let's get into this.

Okay first off: I'm agnostic. I also have a belief in fate, reincarnation, karma, luck and ghosts. I also think there might be a heaven or hell, but I don't really believe in a god or almighty figure that runs the universe. Quoting Picard "I just can't believe the universe is just so poorly run".
I had a very open-minded upbringing and was told by my parents to believe in what I wish to believe in terms of a religion and considering my mother is Methodist, my father and most of his side of the family are Christians (2 being Jewish), I have many agnostic and atheist friends. One whom is a Buddhist, another prodostine, and another whom I was close to dating that is Jewish /Christian.

I've always had my own unique views and ideas on it all. I wish to explain my own views and opinion, but I wish to read others and their own unique views while being civil. Just because one person is Atheist and other is Christian doesn't MEAN they have to be assholes to each other.

Let's start off with something "easy". Death.
I think when we die one of 2 things happens to us.
1. if we felt regrets or an obligation to hang around on Earth or wherever for some reason we remain as ghosts or spirits. I say this since there is evidence and plenty of testimonies of the sightings and interaction with spirits. I can tell a few tales but I'll save those for a different thread.

2. When we die we go somewhere that decides our fate. If we are deemed good we go to Heaven or a paradise. If we were assholes we go to Hell and suffer the tortures of the damned.

However I think our stay to either one is short. Maybe a few years to a century or so. Depends on the sentence. Then we return as someone brand new. I say this because many people have occasionally have memories of a past life. How does this happen if there is only one version of them in existence? And doesn't heaven and hell get filled up with all the people who are dead? And I mean; history shows we've had plenty of maniacs like Hitler and Vlad the Impaler.

Karma and luck I think go hand in hand. We have our good days and others bad. For a reminder on karma its when bad things happen to bad people or good things happen to good people. I think our good days and bad days which are randomly chosen to us by luck also is how karma usually affects us.

Fate/destiny. I think this SORT OF exists. I think some events in our lives are destined to happen. Not down to the exact date and day and method but some version of it. My dad's death while I was young was an even I knew even as a kid was going to happen. It happened when I was 19 which was later than what a lot of people expected but it was destined to happen.
However I think how we react and handle such major events such as the death of a family member or even something on a nation-wide scale like 9/11 or something. They are the tests for us or simply events that are supposed to help our growth as a person.

As for a "God" I don't think one really exists. I don't see any solid evidence of his work happening in this day and age. And I personally think some people using the bible as "proof" is bs since it was actually written by the disciples of Christ who is the son of God. So basically the Holy Bible is a 3rd hand account of events. In a court of law such statements are laughable. (Sorry; but that's my view and opinion) I am a man who desires hard evidence and to me the Holy Bible is just a book a lot of people read. (#1 top seller in the world. Second place goes to Agatha Christie's murder mystery novels)

Well I think that's enough on my views. What's yours?

I am far from religious. I have a deep inset spirituality however. But I cannot stand religion, personally. I will respect the right of others to have it.

Religion to me, is unnecessary. People often use it as an excuse for morality, which makes no sense. We have more than enough proof that morality is an innate feature of a species to help it survive and thrive. As sapient creatures, we are capable of applying critical thinking to this which causes our idea of morality to become more complex and intricate. The concepts of cultural morality come before any religion; religion just borrows it and solidifies it as a sort of pseudo law.

On top of that, religion is something that is highly outdated and often very hypocritical or contradictory of itself. Particularly religions of "The Book". And a major issue is that people take religion out of context.

Everything that religion does for a person, I have done myself without it. From being a morally just person to working hard and making myself into a proper living entity.

As one myth fades away into history, so will others. It's only in due time.

---

There are things that are considered religions that are not religions. Buddhism is one in particular. While it is often coupled with another religion, Buddhism itself is a philosophy. It bothers me that people categorize it as a religion.

---

I am an Agnostic Atheist. I do not believe there are any gods until I am proven otherwise, and I have yet to be proven otherwise. As an agnostic, however, I am open minded to the idea of a higher power or spiritual connection to the world. I believe in spirits, in energy, and in science. I have witnessed ghosts before, whether or not it was a figment of my imagination.

We live in an infinite universe with infinite perceptions. Everything is possible just as nothing is.

I don't put a lot of thought into any of this, really, but...

I grew up and was raised Roman Catholic. I have certain morals and ideals that came with that, but mostly I wouldn't say I'm religious. Although, spirituality, yes, I do retain. Being a paranormal investigator, it would be difficult if I didn't have some form of belief in something, if I, personally, have a form of verification that I don't attribute to simple "belief".

I think religion isn't inherently dangerous, nor is it entirely unnecessary, as some good does come from organized religion (not all). It's the people that corrupt the ideas and either take them too far, not far enough, or twist them into some detestable.

As for what it all means, well... whether there is or isn't an all-seeing entity, I'm not one to say, nor am I one to care unless he shoves his finger in my face and says "BELIEVE in ME!" to the point of annoyance.. I guess my view is that anyone should be able to believe whatever they want, as a lot of this is subjective based on many, many, many factors, and no one has the right to tell them that what they personally or subjectively belief is wrong/stupid/useless. It's all who the person is, what they do with it, where it takes them, and whether it is an impairment or not.

My personal idea is that any one person should be free to do whatever they wish with themselves, so long as it doesn't negatively effect anyone else. If believing in a God is what life means to you, so long as you don't kill, harm, prejudice, slander, or force it upon others that don't share that ideal, feel free to do what you will. Once you cross that boundary of harm is when issue should be raised.

I grew up in 'Mixed' religious, languages and cultures family. For me, I believe in God, Jesus, Angels, Devils, supernatural, miracles and so on.

I go to the church and temple since i was a kid (Only once). I still do a prayer to God.  However, i have my own ideology also doing self research about human life cycles.

Bible - Current bible not a pure bible. There are lot of  bibles that added with human ideology. So i don't read that book.

Sixth senses- Only certain people able to see the entity. Those who not have this ability usually can't understand or they thought that person got a mental sickness.

Personally, i do not scared of it(entity/ghost). They're too weak rather than human. Human can be more cruelest and scariest.

There are lot of things that  i have to learn about this life. The main character in this world are humans. But each human are not all the same.
……

Sometimes i feel like i'm the only one who believe in god.

I'm religious myself. I'm supposed to be catholic, but there's so much wrong with it in my opinion that I end up not really following a particular one. I just believe in the idea that there is a God, that we were created in his image, and that a person should always thrive to become better.

On of the reasons I'm so conflicted with religion, is the whole idea of sending people to hell too quickly, or that non-believers aka atheists/agnostics etc...

There are so many factors that play into the way you're brought up, that it's not really fair to judge someone on their belief, if they make a decision based on those life events.

Regardless of what you believe in or don't believe, as long as you act "correctly" throughout your life, it's all that matters...

Being the best person you can be, and doing good, is all that should really matter with regards to your personal beliefs, I think.

Oh good; nice to see that so far everyone has the same opinion. Basically treat others like dirt is bad. Smile

I think the thing that bothers me the most about that is that those of us who have no religious beliefs; atheists, are often depicted or seen as hateful, horrible people with no valuable path in life. And yet, most of us are peaceful, loving people who value the progression of life and civilization through rationality and moral behavior.

Recently, I've considering adopting some Buddhist practices into my lifestyle because I've become such a cluttered, stressed person. I've begun to meditate again to reduce the amount of strain I've been having.

I believe Death is a perspective!
i am not sure if you get what i am trying to say..
kinda like when you die, others see you dying... but you would never view yourself dying! from your perspective... you will always be alive!
that said all people who are dead here are sure alive in some parallel universe Smile
its hard to prove what i said though... i can give you a better idea of it, but it will require lotttssss of explanation which my tired hands are not ready to do now XD

I don't see any problem with that idea, Crystal. I think I understand your idea.

Basically when you're idea is similar to the idea that when we die we are sleeping. We could be dreaming of anything during our eternal rest.

actually not exactly dreaming... it more related to parallel universe..
u see no accident can cause death with a 100% probability... at least there would be 0.000000...1% chance that we survive it!
so we can see it in this way... assuming there to be infinite parallel universes, if any accident happens to us... maybe in most of them we die.. but even if in any one of them we are alive(which we should according to probability) then we are alive and continue our life forwards! Smile
it means others are seeing us dead(ie. people of those universe where we are dead)... but we will be seeing that we escaped the accident and are totally safe..

so we jumped universes to a different one where we are alive?

not jumped.....
actually infinite universes exist together, untill some small things change in any of it..
so its much like, you are currently in all of those infinite universes which are same as our universe...
and its pure probability what happens in each of those(like if you toss a coin, then either head or tails come... thats what we believe, actually both heads and tails come(half of the infinite universe had heads and other half had tails) and its pure probability that in which universe u be where head/tails came, the moment you tossed the coin and the result came... those half universes separated thus giving each you in those 2 universes 2 separate identity, one person who witnessed heads, and other person who witnessed tails)..
now when u get involved in an accident with a probabiity of 90% death.. it means out of 10 universes in one you are alive... and since you are an observer you will always be in that universe where you can observe, ie. where you are alive... coz where you are not alive you dont simply exist (and just  like that coin case, the infinite line of universes splited into two... (actually many more.. i am just simpyfying) one where you are alive and one where you are not alive... Smile if you ask why you are not the person who died, instead the person who is alive... simply coz that other guy is dead..
i know its confusing... but if u understand it then it feels like enlightment!! (u can get more idea about it by reading a book on chaos theory and parallel universes theory)
