Sailor Moon Crystal

Anyone's watched this?

I've never watched the original but I've always wanted to give it a try, so I might as well watch the new series, but I'm wondering what's the popular opinion of it.

I was watching it for a bit, but the art style killed it for me. I can't take it seriously due to it. But they went in and re-editted it so it looks better.

It isn't so much of the art style in general, but that it is used for the anime which is hard to do. The style is classic shoujo late 80's to early 90's manga and the animation studio is Toei who is know for taking shortcuts. So overally, it looked wanky in the first few episodes. They didn't have a good foundation till episode 4 maybe, after Sailor Mars was introduced. But now, they have a better foundation in regards to art and animation.

But yes, for the DVD and blu-ray releases are redone and look drastically different from the first few episodes, and better for that matter.

I have finished episode 17 but they have just released episode 21, so I am not too far behind. I grew up watching Sailor Moon and have seen the original, both Japanese language subtitled in English and the DiC dub, all in recent years. But I haven't seen Sailor Moon Stars.

I like Sailor Moon Crystal, personally, and it may just be nostalgia, but it is just like the manga. The manga and the 1992 anime are different in plot but have the same themes. Some cam argue Sailor Moon doesn't get dark till Sailor Moon S and I would say in the manga, it got dark faster so Sailor Moon Crystal did get darker faster than the 1992 Sailor Moon anime.
